Leading off the 2016s from barrel, the 2016 Syrah Watch Hill looks to be a match for the 2015. Blackberries, white pepper, blueberries, violets and mint all emerge from this beauty. With medium to full-bodied richness, terrific purity and a great finish, drink it on release and over the following 7-8.

The 2016 Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is wonderfully savory and expressive. Floral and pepper notes make a strong first impression. This powerful, imposing Syrah exudes intensity in every dimension. Zac Wasserman opted to vinify the 2016 with 50% whole clusters, an approach that worked beautifully. Time in the glass gives the wine a chance to blossom further, which, in turn, allows a glimpse of its ultimate potential. The 2016 Watch Hill is a wine with tremendous promise.
The 2016 Syrah Watch Hill is excellent, offering up aromas of ripe plums, blackberry, cassis and violets, followed by a full-bodied, firmly structured palate with good reserves of concentration and energy and a long, rich finish. This is my favorite of these three vineyard-designate Syrahs, and I suspect it will also be the longest lived.
